In MITP’s Peer Approved series, we look at the people within our industry that motivate us with their creativity, their work ethic and their dedication to the craft.
In this edition, our videographer Austy discusses the Australian filmmakers at the top of the game right now.
Drew Kendell (WA) - @dk_filmmaker
Drew has proven time and time again he is one of the best all-round filmmakers in WA. Putting together some of the most cinematic videos in Perth, It takes an incredible eye to use light the way Drew does, and his knack for it shows in everything he creates. From run and gun content like festivals and travel videos, to short films and commercials, Drew never fails to turn something into a beautiful frame.
Matt Sav (WA) - @mattsavmattsav
Matt Sav's creativity is unrivalled. His music videos are a must-watch and his presence on set is like no one else. He has made some of the best content out while working with tons of top-tier artists throughout Australia. Matts Instagram is one you can't help but follow to find inspiration, and I’m constantly screenshotting his stuff for moodboards. Definitely check out his latest video for DrYES on Mental Health with Caleb from Spacey Jane.
Daniel Di Franco (WA) - @difrancofilms
Di Franco has been working with MITP for years. I always have a good time working with Di Franco, he's friendly, professional and a pleasure to work with. He is also extremely talented, making some of Perth's best event and fashion videos. His dedication to his craft is incredible as he continues to one-up himself with each of his videos.
Luna Laure (WA) - @lunalaureloves
Laure is one of the most talented and genuine people you can meet. Her energy draws people together on set, something that always shines through in her projects. Her work is very authentic, and no matter what kind of content she is making, it seems to always find a way to connect with the viewer’s emotions. I’m certain that if more people in this industry could be like Laure, there would never be a bad shoot.
Patrick Rohl (NSW) - @patrickrohl / @yeahsu_re
Pat has not only worked with some of the biggest names in Australian music, but some of the biggest brands in the world. It’s easy to tell Pat loves what he does; the quality of his work and the huge smile on his face give it away instantly. His work is always pushing new limits, but don't take my word for it - check out his campaigns with Spotify, American Express, Playstation, Smirnoff, Gang of Youths and many more to see for yourself.
Ryan Sauer (VIC) - @ryansauer
Ryan is an award-winning, ARIA-nominated director. His skills with a camera are out of this world and his direction is somehow even better. Working with loads of amazing musicians worldwide, Ryan has made a name for himself making content that looks and feels incredible.
Sean Finney (VIC) - @sean_finney
Sean has a very keen eye in photography, which in recent years has developed into some beautiful cinematography. We worked with Sean a lot while he was in Perth and know firsthand how he can make any shoot enjoyable and interesting. Sean’s second Instagram (dedicated to point-and-shoot film photos) is always a huge vibe too, check it out at @pointandshootdiaries.
Liam Oz (WA) - @_liamoz / @rem.jet
We have a lot of love for Liam. Liam was the original intern here at MITP 6 years ago and became a key part of our Content Team until moving to London earlier this year. Liam’s strengths come from his ability to push himself and absorb information at the speed of light. He continues to make extremely impressive content while mastering everything he comes across - from film photography to advanced colour grading, and even a bit of stage magic (if you’re REALLY lucky).
